North York Moors Nature Recovery Plan

The North York Moors National Park Nature Recovery Plan outlines the actions required to restore and enhance nature across this iconic landscape.

Structured around eight themes, it addresses vital habitats and ecosystems, with each theme including a vision for the future, clear priorities, and a series of actionable steps. The plan draws on insights from a wide range of stakeholders, including nature conservation groups, landowners and government bodies, ensuring both ambition and practicality in its goals.

How does this Plan fit with the development of Local Nature Recovery Strategies?

Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRSs) are legislated, locally-led plans that map out priorities and actions for improving nature in England. In total, there are 48 strategy areas covering the whole of England.

The North York Moors Nature Recovery Plan will help inform the development of the two Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRSs) that are relevant to the National Park, these are the North Yorkshire and York Local Nature Recovery Strategy, which was published in Feburary 2026. and the Tees Valley Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
