Dun Bogs wall

This is a continuation of the scheme from 2021 to restore the full length roadside wall. It also enabled a further 500m of traditional dry stone wall to be rebuilt alongside the main arterial road from Whitby to Guisborough.

The completed wall now ensures that the fields adjacent are stockproof, preventing any livestock from straying on to the busy road. The wall was rebuilt over the winter months of 2021/22 and is a good example of what can be achieved with the S106 funding.

The route of the polyhalite extraction tunnel is directly underneath the rebuilt wall so in terms of proximity to the mine it is very apparent. The wall is a traditional feature of the countryside in this area and is now rebuilt after falling into disrepair over many years.

The project encompasses landscape, biodiversity and historical importance as well as being supportive of traditional countryside crafts which need funding to maintain these skills into the future. The Mulgrave Estate contribution to this project was the removal of the old fence line and installation of a new stock proof one adjacent to the A171.
