The National Park Education Service provides a number of opportunities for DofE groups and individuals working to all levels of the award.
Individuals
Work towards your skill/ volunteering sections by joining our Young Ranger Scheme. Monthly conservation tasks enabling you to take part in social action. Participants are to attended regular sessions for the timeframe of the award to show commitment as the award requires.
Groups
Why not bring your bronze or silver groups out for an expedition practice day at The Moors National Park Centre, Danby? A full day of activities offers participants a chance to go over the vital skills to fulfil some of the 20 conditions for their award, led by experienced staff. Includes skills workshops in;
Compass skills
Pacing
Emergency procedures
Nutrition and health awareness
Campcraft and cooking demos
Day walk including learning map and navigation skills and following the countryside code.
Start and finish times are flexible but a usual day begins at 10:00am and finishes by 3:00pm and includes time for lunch. Minimum group size is 12 and we can be flexible on maximum group sizes. The cost per person is £6.50. Use the contact information at the bottom to enquire.
Conservation Residential - Gold Award
Our twice yearly Conservation Residentials also count as your DofE gold residential section. Enjoy 4 nights and 5 days of conservation tasks (e.g. drystone walling, peat depth monitoring, footpath maintenance) as well as a night walk and team building challenges on the first day. Simple but comfortable accommodation is based within picturesque Rosedale in the heart of the North York Moors. Tasks and walks take us right across the National Park to some of its most iconic locations.
