Car parks and toilets

Plan ahead. Stay apart. Act responsiblyPlan ahead. Stay apart. Act responsibly

To help maintain social distancing, the list below shows some of the largest car parks within the National Park to assist with your planning. We have included details of who operates each car park and, if not operated by ourselves, we would recommend that you check the operators' websites for the latest information. Please note this does not include every car park; we will review and add to this page as the situation changes.

From 7 April 2021, we are moving to card payment only ticket machines in Authority operated car parks. We expect this process to take two weeks, during which we advise that you bring both cash and a card to pay for parking. PayByPhone is also available at our car parks (except Chop Gate) and we recommend downloading the app before your visit. If there's no mobile coverage, you can either move to an area with better network coverage and complete your parking transaction or pay by cash. The PayByPhone website has further information and links to download the app. All the money raised in this car park is spent on looking after the National Park. Thank you for helping others to enjoy their time here.

Please note all toilets operated by North York Moors National Park Authority are open daily 10am-4pm unless otherwise stated below. We are also refurbing a number of toilets so some of them may be closed, please check below for the latest information.

If you arrive at any of the following car parks that are open and they look busy, please find an alternative. Remember do not block access for local residents, farm vehicles which can be wide, or emergency services.

Please adhere to social distancing rules and any procedures that operators have in place in car parks and toilets to keep everyone safe. And please be considerate and kind to those whose job it is to keep these facilities clean and safe for you.

Clearway sign If the car park is full, please do not park on the roadside as a 2 mile clearway is in operation in the Sheepwash area and you may get fined.

NB clearways are stretches of road where you are not allowed to stop your car for any reason at any time. Look for the circular sign showing a red cross on a blue background.

Please keep out of the reservoir - the open water is not a safe place to swim; it is cold, deep and potentially dangerous and there are no lifeguards on duty.
