Moorland

The heather moorland of the North York Moors is internationally important for wildlife, and most of this area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation.
Over the majority of the moorland it is important to continue the traditional management for sheep and grouse. Natural England is helping to fund beneficial moorland management and conservation projects through Defra's national agri-environment agreements.
