Laura Williams

Bio

I’m a fully-trained journalist, mum-of-two and longtime West Country resident. I first connected with Exmoor National Park during childhood holidays and have been a regular visitor and supporter of the park ever since. Having worked for national newspapers, magazines and broadcast outlets - including on the Western Daily Press news desk and with the BBC – I moved in the not-for-profit sector, overseeing marketing and communications for National Trust properties across the South West and leading communications for a Bristol MP. A strong advocate for national parks, I previously led communications and campaigns for Campaign for National Park, launching the National Parks: New Perspectives scheme to share diverse stories from national parks, including Exmoor. My latest paid role sees me heading up communications for National Parks Partnerships. Voluntary roles have included trustee of Baby Bank Network and Trinity Community Arts and Non-Executive Director of The Bristol Cable.

Exmoor is such as special place to me, with its diverse and inspirational landscape and incredible people. It's been there throughout my life at times of love, loss and life changes and has helped me navigate those - now it's my turn to give something back to the national park that has given me so much. I am very much looking forward to spending more time in my favourite national park and meeting the people who make it what it is. I'm honoured to have been selected by the Secretary of State for this role and look forward to bringing my passion, skills and experience to the board to help ensure that Exmoor is delivering for people and nature - and is, in turn, loved and cherished by the nation.
