There are lots of exciting cycling and mountain bike events in the North York Moors area for all ages, whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a beginner looking to improve your skills or simply looking for a great family day out. If you like to combine mountain biking with trail running, take a look at Adventure racing events too.

Mountain biking, cycle cross, gravel biking and enduro events

22 February 2020 - Yorkshire True Grit Dark Skies
Location: Newburgh Priory
Combine the toughness of Yorkshire True Grit with the dark skies of night; suitable for gravel bikes or cross-country mountain bikes. Bike 50 forest and moorland miles.

16 – 17 May 2020 - Boltby Bash Enduro and MTB Sportive
Location: Boltby Forest, team or individual event, plus sportive option).
For gravity and MTB enthusiasts, the Enduro event involves 5 timed stages on private land. Enter in teams of up to 4 people or be an ‘island’ and challenge yourself, it even includes a category for electric bikes. The Boltby Bash Sportive, a non-competitive loop will run after the Enduro or join the practice day on the Saturday. Live music, bar and food on Saturday evening plus camping.

6 – 7 June 2020 – Moors One Hundred
A weekend introduction to the joys of bikepacking on the North York Moors. Over 90% of the route is off road, with great views, singletrack, fast gravel roads, forests, miles of open heather moorland, cosy country pubs and an evening camping at High Paradise Farm with pizza, beer and live music. Day one covers 53 miles, followed by 48 miles on day two.

19 – 21 June 2020 - Yorkshire True Grit (gravel grinding event)
Location: Starting location between Sutton Bank and Boltby, camping will be available too.
This off-road endurance adventure challenge across the North York Moors uses gravel tracks and trails with a choice of three routes 20, 40 or 60 miles. There'll be classes for gravel, mountain, singlespeed, fat and electric bikes. Camping, catering, bar and a band on site too.

20 – 21 June 2020 - Ard Moors Enduro and Sprint Enduro
Location: From Lord Stones County Park
From the organisers of 'Ard Rock in the Yorkshire Dales, an Enduro with timed downhill stages on the North York Moors with steep trails, flat out singletrack and a proper 'Ard adventure! Bookings open every November and it sells out very quickly!

18 – 19 July 2020 - Esk Valley Enduro
New for 2020, experience five stages across two days and explore the best riding the Esk Valley has to offer, from technical, natural sections to fast flowing loam, jumps, berms and flat out moorland.

24 – 26 July 2020 The Crossing (Rat Race)
Sample some of the UK’s finest mountain biking on this coast-to-coast 200 mile mountain bike ride on fully way-marked tracks, taking in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks.

4 – 6 September 2020 - 2020 UK Singlespeed Championships (SSUK2020)
Location: Yorkshire Cycle Hub, Fryup
Back in Yorkshire after five years, with new trails, good food and beer, make a weekend of it.

19 – 20 September 2020 – 5 Forests
Location: Dalby Forest, plus Langdale, Broxa, Cropton and Newtondale Forests
New for 2020, from the organisers of Yorkshire True Grit, covering 100 miles on your bike, each forest will feature a timed section - uphill, downhill, flat or a combination of all three. Suitable for gravel bikes (or any off-road bike)

6 October 2020 – 8th North York Moors Coastal Cycle Challenge
Location: Cinder Track (start Fylingdales Village Hall), 38 miles following the old railway path between Whitby and Scarborough (non-technical but may be rough in places). Ride for yourself or for charity.

Date tbc October 2020 – Top of the Rock Gravel Sportive
Location: From Sutton Bank National Park Centre
Starting 1000ft up on the spectacular Sutton Bank escarpment, take a grand tour across moor ‘n dale on gravel trails.
Choice of three routes: Short: 27k (17 miles), Medium: 36k (22 miles) or Long: 60k (37 Miles).  
Expect spectacular autumn colours, a relaxed and fun vibe with smooth and flowing to technically and physically challenging trails, as well as a beer tent at the end!

Road cycling events and sportives

21 March 2020 - Daffodils Sportive
Location: Thirsk across the North York Moors to see Farndale's famous daffodils, with a choice of three routes (35.6, 77.4 and 88 miles)

22-25 May 2020 – All Points North
Starting and finishing in Sheffield, this is aimed at experienced endurance road riders and mapping enthusiasts. Riders are challenged with ticking off 10 checkpoints scattered across the north of England as quickly as possible. Depending on your route, expect to cover around 600 miles – checkpoints in this area for 2020 are Castle Howard and Rosedale Abbey.

6 June 2020 - Whitby Regatta Sportive
Location: Whitby with three hilly routes to choose from (28.9, 53.8 and 80.6 miles) and up to 6,900ft of climbing.

14 June 2020 - Fadmoor Sportive
Location: Part of Fadmoor Cycling Day, includes both a family bike ride plus a Sportive (26 miles or a two lap option (52 miles) for the more experienced) which follows the Bransdale loop.

20 June 2020 - Yorkshire Beast
Location: The ultimate challenge, tackling both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors over 200 Miles and with 5,000m of climbing, taking in some of our greatest climbs including, Boltby Bank, Glaisdale Horror (Caper Hill), Rosedale Chimney Bank.

20 June 2020 - Coast to Coast in a Day
Location: Seascale to Whitby via Great Broughton, Kildale, Esk Valley. This annual event is very popular and you are advised to book as early as possible.

28 June 2020 - Ryedale Rumble
Enjoy steep climbs, fast descents and stunning scenery around the National Park. With three routes – extreme (168km), challenging (115km) and inspire (67km) – beginners and experienced riders will find something to suit.

11 July 2020 - Stockton Sportive
Location: Stockton with a choice of four routes, from the fairly flat Spin (36.7 miles) for the first time Sportive rider, through to the Tour de Moor at 105.8 miles, with over 11,000ft of climbing. Part of Stockton Cycling Festival.

26 September 2020 - White Horse Sportive
Location: Nunthorpe across the North York Moors with a choice of three routes (30.3, 60.4 and 76.8 miles)

Cycling festivals and spectator events

30 April - 3 May 2020 - Tour de Yorkshire
Hosted by Amaury Sport Organisation and Welcome to Yorkshire, and supported by British Cycling, the Tour de Yorkshire is a UCI 2.Pro major international cycle race, guaranteeing participation of some of the world’s leading cyclists. Route details will be revealed in January 2020.


A complete list of British Cycling affiliated events is also available for Yorkshire. Local cycling clubs also hold organised club rides, with routes that will often take in the beautiful North York Moors.
