Gillies Jones is a contemporary glass studio open to visitors year round. You can see their permanent exhibition of studio glass inspired by the elemental beauty of the moors.
Internationally renowned glassmakers Stephen Gillies & Kate Jones established their glass blowing workshop in Rosedale nearly 20 years ago, reviving a 400 year old tradition in the dale. Gillies Jones blow glass as the first makers of Rosedale did back in 1567, it’s the slow way of making glass, ensuring everything is handmade and only small numbers are made each day.
You can find their glass in numerous museum collections, including the V&A.
While they do not offer formal demonstrations, visitors are welcome to call in and see the glass makers when they are at work. Although they cannot guarantee that glassmaking will be occurring every day, they always offer a warm welcome for anyone calling in and for anyone interested in finding out more about their contemporary glass.
