Gill Kirk

Textile artist and printmaker Gill Kirk also works in outdoor education, which takes her to the same landscapes and environments day after day, year after year. This familiarity with the natural world has led her to focus on the immense complexity, diversity and beauty that surrounds her.
Gill previously served as artist-in-residence in Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales, focusing on the local hay meadows. There, she deepened her understanding of the fragility of the countryside, and was drawn to investigate the pollinators of the hay meadows' wild flowers – butterflies, moths and bees. A later study of the honeybees and bumble bees of the North York Moors inspired mixed-media pieces on cloth and paper, using the print processes of collagraph, screen-printing and monoprint.
Gill also produces a range of cushions and bags featuring bees and flowers, and runs regular monoprint and screen-printing workshops.
