Local woodworker David Hannah creates unique decorative mirrors and furniture using a wide variety of British hardwoods, mainly sourced from North Yorkshire. David's philosophy is that art and functionality can be combined to create truly special pieces of wooden art.
David Hannah
David was born and raised in the local area and studied biology at University of Sunderland. He worked as a retail manager for 20 years. Over the years David developed woodworking skills which forms the basis for what has become a passion in his life.
David works with a wide range of hardwoods, mainly sourced from Yorkshire but occasionally needs to source timber for example Burr Elm from Scotland and further afield. The timber he buys usually has some fault or character which he utilises to create a feature. He is very fortunate that his father in law is a wood turner and that they source timber together from local sawmills, tree surgeons and specialist timber suppliers. He makes furniture and mirrors that emphasise the beauty of the wood. His philosophy is that furniture doesn't have to be boring and that it can be made in to a piece of art.
