Exploring the Boundaries
Friday 25 September to Tuesday 13 October
Members of the Ebor Group take inspiration from the natural environment, found objects and derelict spaces, and their works blur the boundary between past and present, especially regarding the human impact on the landscape. Using a broad range of techniques and materials, they have created pieces that combine colour, texture and form to capture the special qualities of the North York Moors.
The Ebor Group
The Ebor Group was formed in 1996, under the initial guidance of mentor Hilary Bower, a renowned international textile artist. The group consists of nine members, who all live and work in North Yorkshire.
The artists work in different mediums with a broad range of techniques, using paper, paints, dyes, fabric, threads, wax, metal and wood. The use of ‘found’ objects, photography and modern technology adds a contemporary feel to both 2D and 3D pieces.
Members of the group retain their individual styles, but benefit from the shared experience of working towards an exhibition. They work to a theme – researching and gathering ideas for the chosen topic, then using appropriate mediums or processes to convey ideas and emotions.
The theme acts as both an inspiration and a challenge. Colour, texture and form combine to capture various elements and qualities, not just of landscape but of atmosphere, history and cultural heritage.
