EMERGENCY CLOSURE NOTICE

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14(2) (as amended)

The North York Moors National Park Authority hereby gives notice that from 16 September 2026 until 6 October 2026 inclusive the following closure is in force in the parish of West Ayton in the County of North Yorkshire:

Public Footpath 1 West Ayton (part of) (A-B):
No pedestrian shall proceed along part of Public Footpath 1 West Ayton past Ayton Castle and then through the Forge Valley in a generally northerly direction between Grid Reference SE 9860 8494 (Point A) and Grid Reference SE 9839 8712 (Point B). A total distance of 2540 metres.

Alternative route:
Permissive Footpath, Public Footpath 702 West Ayton & the U551 Cockrah Road
(B-C-D-A):
Pedestrians can proceed along the permissive route commencing at Grid Reference SE 9839 8712 (Point B), through the woods in a generally south-westerly and then south-easterly direction to the junction with Public Footpaths 502 & 702 West Ayton at Grid Reference SE 9835 8690 (Point C); continue on Public Footpath 702 West Ayton through the woods in a generally southerly direction to exit onto the U551 Cockrah Road (by the caravan site) at Grid Reference SE 9845 8536 (Point D) and finally continue through West Ayton in a generally southerly direction to the entrance of Public Footpath 1 West Ayton at Grid Reference SE 9860 8494 (Point A). A total distance of 2818 metres.

The Order is necessary due to the unsafe condition of the boardwalk.

The closure will be put into effect by means of the erection of notices, signs and maps, and the alternative route will be signed on site where appropriate.
