Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14(1) (as amended)

The North York Moors National Park Authority has made an order, the effect of which is to make the following closure in the parish of Fylingdales in the county of North Yorkshire:

Public Footpath 48 Fylingdales: (B - A)  
No pedestrian shall proceed along this footpath commencing on the side of the A171 (Whitby – Scarborough road, opposite Fern Farm) at Grid Reference NZ 9268 0579 (Point B) and proceeding in an easterly direction for 513 metres across fields to the junction with Public Footpath 649 Fylingdales between Fen Cottage & Hunter’s Moon at Grid Reference NZ 9316 0571 (Point A). A total distance of 513 metres.

Alternative routes:

Public Footpath 649 Fylingdales: (C – A)
Commencing on the side of the A171 (Whitby - Scarborough road) at Grid Reference NZ 9261 0569 (Point C), pedestrians can proceed in a generally easterly direction across Fylingdales Low Moor and then turn to proceed in a north-easterly direction up to the junction with Public Footpath 48 Fylingdales (at Fen Cottage) at Grid Reference NZ 9316 0571 (Point A). A total distance of 710 metres.

Public Footpath 46 Fylingdales: (D – A)
Commencing at the side of the A171 (Whitby - Scarborough road, opposite Manor Farm House) at Grid Reference NZ 9283 0613 (Point D), pedestrians can proceed in a generally south-easterly direction across fields to Sea View Farm and then onto the junction with Public Footpath 48 Fylingdales (at Fen Cottage) at Grid Reference NZ 9316 0571 (Point A). A total distance of 585 metres.

The Order is necessary to allow for a mains water pipe to be replaced.

The closure takes effect from 7 September 2026 and will be put into effect by means of the erection of notices and signs.  The notice/signs will include maps and/or plans showing all three routes described above marking clearly the closed route and the two alternative routes.  This Order shall remain in effect for a period of six months ending on 6 April 2027.
