Born in Doncaster and now based at Kirkham Abbey in North Yorkshire, artist Ros Walker's creative journey spans graphics, printmaking, stained glass, mixed media, and ceramics, blending these disciplines into beautifully textured, sculptural works.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world and local landscape, her pieces explore the fragile beauty of life’s cycles, the changing seasons, and our connection to nature. Using locally sourced clay and experimental firing techniques, she creates works that are both shaped by and rooted in the land itself.
Watch Ros bring her vision to life with a sculptural piece inspired by A Beacon for the Arts Festival. This commission, supported by the AirBnB Best of British Fund, celebrates creativity across the North York Moors - shining a light on art, environment, and community through the Beacon for the Arts.
This sculptural piece seeks to incorporate these qualities, to celebrate the rich artistic heritage of the North York Moors, and to represent the unique quality of this area.
The hole through the stone, a reference to both the Wheeldale Stones and hagstones of the coast, gives a sense of mystery, hope and purpose, and contains a stained-glass panel, a window to the moorland landscape stretching towards the sea.
The sculpture is inspired by and made of this moorland, and I hope has an energy which will draw people to it and impart a sense of hope, reassurance and place.
