About Nunnington Hall
Nunnington Hall is just outside of the historic market town of Helmsley. Over the past 450 years the house and estate have been altered to suit a succession of owners and tenants. The house you see today is a fascinating combination of renovation and re-purpose, creating an atmospheric and comfortable home. Looked after by the National Trust, there are events and experiences throughout the year, often introducing new exhibitions held in the gallery space of the hall in each season. Visitors can go behind the scenes on tours of the collection rooms and see how the National Trust looks after the objects in their care.
There's lots for families to enjoy including children's trails in school holidays, the Lion's Den play area and gardens to explore. Visitors can also enjoy historical rooms, admire the popular Carlisle Collection of miniature rooms as well as stop for a bite to eat in the tea room or tea garden. The hall hosts much-loved events throughout the year such as Love Local, Autumn Festival, and Festive Evenings. Located on the top floor is the exhibition space which showcases different artists’ work both local and afar.
Nunnington’s garden is organically managed, one of the first to convert to this approach in 2002, reviving traditional horticultural methods while also embracing modern techniques and technology. You can see much of this work in practice as you explore the garden, including a four-bay composting system, a wormery, fruit cages, animal habitats, and an organic vegetable patch.
