RSPB Bempton Cliffs
A unique part of the English mainland and the easiest place to see one of natures’ spectacles.
In the peak of the breeding season, half a million birds are busy on our cliffs and you can experience them up close and personal. We have viewpoints that get you safely to the cliff edge to overlook the colony of puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes and gannets amongst others. Our cliffs tower 100m over the thunderous and dynamic seas where you might also see dolphin, porpoise and in summer, minke whales.
Join one of our cruises to get an awe-inspiring look at the cliffs whilst sailing past puffins or seeing the magnificent gannet diving for fish alongside our boat, the Yorkshire Belle. Our puffins are easiest to see between April and June and leave the cliffs by mid-July.
In autumn and winter, we are home to owls and migrant birds finding shelter after crossing the North Sea, and the landscape and wild seas provide an ever-changing backdrop to wild winter walks.
Our visitor centre has a warming café and gift shop. We have binoculars to hire or buy and on the viewpoints in summer, our local guides will show you the best of the wildlife so you don’t need any special knowledge or equipment. A basic camera can give you great memories here.
