About Staithes Museum

Staithes Museum is an eclectic heritage centre situated in the picturesque village of Staithes. With thousands of photographs, paintings, prints and objects relating to Staithes and the surrounding area, there is something inspiring for everyone to discover.

Explore the history of fishing, mining, the lifeboat, the railway, maritime voyages, the Staithes Group of artists and the life of Captain Cook here in the North York Moors National Park. If you’re lucky, you could even uncover a bit of family history!

As well as the museum’s own charming gift shop, the site also boasts also two craft shops; showcasing textiles, ceramics and much more, all hand made by local artisans.

The friendly volunteers have a wealth of knowledge to share, and are committed to preserving the fascinating history of a very special place. Dive in to a treasure trove of history by visiting Staithes Museum, and with pay-as-you feel entry, you have nothing to lose!

The museum has a gift shop and two craft shops with local artisans.

Pay and display council parking available at Bank Top car park, free in winter, and 40 mins free parking and free blue badge parking on the High Street.

Public transport

X4 Middlesbrough Whitby buses stop at the Staithes road junction on the A174.
