There are lots of exciting cycling and mountain bike events in the North York Moors area for all ages, whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a beginner looking to improve your skills or simply looking for a great family day out. The North York Moors has a range of gravel, road, adventure, triathlon and mountain bike events to cover all bases. Pre-booking essential:

Mountain biking,  gravel biking and enduro events 2026

2026 Kids Time Trial Series
11 April, 6 June, 24 October
Location: Sutton Bank National Park Centre. Mini Shredders takes place on the skills loop (morning) and Rippers takes place on the gravel loop (afternoon) Closures and diversions to the trails while events taking place.

2026 Kids MTB Enduro championships
25 April, 4 July, 19 September.
Location: Sutton Bank National Park Centre. Kids MTB Enduro championships, using sections of the Gravel Butterfly Loop with sections of "off-piste." Some trails will be closed during these events.

18 April + 20 June  - Top of the Rock Gravel X
Location: Sutton Bank.  New for 2026 is a Gravel-X events which will take place on the dedicated gravel course opposite Sutton Bank Bikes. Pre-booking essential at Sutton Bank Bikes.

9 May - Pedal! Pie! Pint! Cycle Sportive
New for 2026 setting off from Fadmoor and heading out through Brandsdale, Farndale and Rosedale. Quiet lanes, big views, proper climbs, and a warm welcome back at The Plough in Fadmoor for a pie and a pint! Three distances. Booking

10 May  - Dalby Forest Duathlon and Dalby Devil Gravel Ride.
Location: Dalby Forest. An off-road Duathlon includes a sprint distance ideal for beginners (approx 5k, 20k2.5k) or a standard (approx 10k, 40k, 5 k), which can also be done as a relay. The gravel rides will be 50km and 80km or 100km and 160km on Dalby’s best gravel roads, suitable for gravel, cyclocross, mountain and hybrid bikes. Organiser and online booking: Wild Deer Events.

16 May  - Boltby Bash
Location: Boltby near Thirsk - five stage enduro mountain bike race on wild and natural trails on private land, everything from flowing loam and technical rock gardens. Enjoys some fine panoramic views across the North York Moors National Park. Entries open December 2025. Online booking: Boltby Bash.

14 June -  Yorkshire Mountain Bike Marathon
Location: Birdsall Estates. The Yorkshire Mountain Bike Marathon is a traditional challenge mountain bike event that takes place around the private, normally un-accessible 12,000-acre Birdsall Estate. The event is inclusive and suitable for a variety of abilities, some will look to get a fast time and others will look to complete the challenge in their own time. However everyone will get to experience the natural single-track, woodland and unique terrain.

June TBC - Ard Moors
Location: Lord Stones Country Park -  a multi-stage enduro mountain bike race, an Ard adventure on the stunning North York Moors. Expect steep natural trails, single track, big hills, long climbs and entertainment at the stunning Lord Stones Country Park in the heart of the National Park.

13 -14 June - Yorkshire Coast Dirt Dash
Location: YHA Whitby. Non-timed, self-supported reliability bike packing event with overnight camping. Two days of riding on the Route YC Adventure Weekender Route, taking in the dramatic scenery of the Yorkshire Coast and North York Moors National Park.

19 - 21 June – Dalby Grit
Location: Dalby Forest. Dalby Grit - a gravel race set within Dalby Forest, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. 110km of the finest gravel roads and linking trails in the area. Expect close racing on punchy climbs, fast descents and long flatter sections where you can really get the power down!

10-13 July - Gravel Rocks
Location: Duncombe Park, Helmsley.  A different kind of gravel event, two days with two stages. Two night timed segments (over 10km loop) and four day timed segments (over 75km loop). Created by the team from the Dirty Reiver.

20 - 23 August - The Crossing (Rat Race) 
Sample some of the UK’s finest mountain biking on this coast-to-coast 320km (200 mile) mountain bike ride on fully signed tracks, taking in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks.

Road and sportive cycling events 2026

12 April - Ronde Yorkshire Sportive
Location: head off from Stokesley along one of three routes 173km, 142km or 78km. (107, 88 or miles), with the medium and long taking in the iconic assent of Chimney Bank.

13 June - Yorkshire Beast
Location: Thirsk. The ultimate challenge, tackling both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors over 327kms (200 miles) and with over 5,500m of climbing, taking in some of our greatest climbs including Boltby Bank, Caper Hill and Rosedale Chimney Bank.

5 July - Struggle Moors
Location:  Sutton Bank National Park Centre
Struggle Moors is one of the UK's hardest sportives, set in the breathtaking North York Moors landscape. Struggle Moors boasts bucket-list cycling climbs woven into the best North York Moors scenery. This year with a brand new Ultra 250km route taking in 10 iconic climbs.

27 September - Minds and Miles
Location: Sutton Bank National Park Centre. September is Mindful Month. Minds and Miles cycle event is a great opportunity to share a cycle through the National Park with friends and family. An event designed to help you slow down, look up and enjoy the National Park by bike - while sharing it with your favourite people, options for a family loop, gravel ride or road route, all supporting North York Moors Trust. A National Park event powered by Struggle Events.

3 October -  Chimney Bank Hill Climb
Location: Rosedale. From 10am - tackling the steepest road in the UK, the annual Chimney Bank hill climb is organised by local cycling club Ryedale Velo Club.

A complete list of British Cycling affiliated events is also available. Local cycling clubs also hold organised club rides, with routes that will often take in the beautiful North York Moors.


Triathlons 2026

20 June - Helmsley Triathlon
Location: Helmsley open air pool. Option of a swimrun or triathlon all starting from the pool in Helmsley. Cycle ride uses the quiet lanes of the "Bransdale Loop" and a multi-terrain 10km running route near to the town.
