So what does it all mean? Here's what to expect from a walking friendly business:

Accommodation

Enjoy the little perks such as boot cleaning, kit storage and drying facilities. Get advice on the nearest outdoor shops and walking providers. You're welcome to borrow maps and guides, alongside great route recommendations with walking friendly places to eat along the way.

Activity provider

If you’re looking to join a group or some of the best walking routes alongside local knowledge, there are a number of activity providers who can help. If you’re booking a long distance walking holiday there are also a number of businesses who specialise in baggage transfer and support. Take a look at our Walking holidays and baggage carriers.

Food and drink

Everyone knows a good walk becomes a great one when you add food into the equation. Be it a half way cuppa and cake, or pint and pie at the end. These places  offer a friendly welcome and won’t mind muddy boots. They can also advise on other things to see and places to visit for the next leg of your walk. Did you know we're famed for being the Capital of Cake? Don't miss out on a slice from the North York Moors.

Retail

Whether you've forgotten your boots or walking poles, need an extra layer or just want some local advice, an outdoor shop is always a good bet. You’re guaranteed to get some great local knowledge on route conditions and weather forecasts.

Our friendly networks

It's not just walking friendly! We've got networks to suit stargazers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts. Want to join the family?
