Funding a brighter future for St Peter’s Centre

The North York Moors National Park Authority awarded a Visitor Experience Grant to St Peter’s Centre in Staithes to help improve facilities and strengthen what the venue can offer to both visitors and the local community.

St Peter’s Centre has previously been a fish merchant’s house, school and church and remains an important part of community life, already attracting around 25,000 visitors each year through its shop and activities.

Visitor Experience grant funding has been used to improve the Centre’s facilities, including the installation of new hanging systems and other exhibition infrastructure. This meant the building was fully ready to be used as an exhibition space for the Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage, allowing local artists to display their work in a more professional and welcoming way.

The improved space now also allows St Peter’s Centre to run a wider range of events throughout the year. These include community coffee mornings, film nights and murder mystery parties, all designed to bring people together and provide enjoyable experiences for both residents and visitors.

St Peters Centre celebrates Staithes’ strong artistic roots, helping visitors connect with the area’s cultural heritage as well as today’s creative community. The events and activities at St Peter’s Centre encourage people to spend more time exploring Staithes to connect with nature, often combining this with overnight stays and eating out, thus supporting local businesses and the local economy.

This projects supports the following Management Plan objective:
