Robert moved to Whitby in 1992 and became a full time painter. Working in watercolour, oil, and pastel, Robert's inspiration is the challenge of capturing light and atmosphere in a contemporary impressionistic style. He paints, mainly landscape and coastal scenery, around his home in North Yorkshire, and on his annual trip to Venice.
In 1997 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and subsequently featured on Tyne Tees Television's "A Day In The Life Of ..." series.
He is the current Archivist for the Royal Society of Marine Artists.
Robert has written three books, published by The Crowood Press, 'Painting Boats & Coastal Scenery', 'Painting in Pastel's' and 'Painting Landscapes in Oils'. His work has also featured in several publications, including The Artist, The Artist & Illustrator and Pratique des Arts.
Robert has four instructional DVDs produced by Townhouse Films, 'Successful Summer Landscapes In Watercolour', 'Painting Atmospheric Watercolour Landscapes', 'Oil Sketching On Location' and 'Atmospheric Coastal Watercolour Landscape'.
