We provide car parks at a number of villages and scenic spots throughout the North York Moors. These car parks are pay and display and many have public toilets.
The relatively small charge we ask helps us to maintain these facilities for the benefit of residents and visitors all year round and is also spent on looking after the National Park. Thank you for helping others to enjoy their time here.
Card payment and PayByPhone ticket machines
Our ticket machines are card payment only in our car parks across the National Park. You can also pay by Apple Pay and Android Pay.
PayByPhone is available in our car parks too. The PayByPhone app makes parking fast, easy and convenient - and you don’t even have to get out of your car. The North York Moors National Park page on the PayByPhone website has further information and advice.
You will not be able to access the app if you have no mobile network coverage, you will then have two options:
- Move to an area with better network coverage and complete your parking transaction with PayByPhone
- Pay for your parking via other methods such as PayPoint or via the Pay & Display machine where available

In order to maintain the facilities at a high standard, the larger car parks and public toilets are cared for by car park wardens who are happy to help you and can provide information about the National Park.
Please note all toilets operated by North York Moors National Park Authority are open daily 7.30am-5.30pm.

Spaces at Low Mill are severely restricted at wild daffodil time, but the privately run Daffy Car Park (charges apply) is available in an adjacent field during this busy period.

Permits
If you are a regular visitor or a resident, we offer a range of permits, which provide excellent value for money. These can be purchased in person, posted to you or you can complete our online form, with an additional £2 charge to cover postage and packaging.
All car parks annual permit
This covers all of the above car parks and costs £60.00 a year from the date of issue.
You can buy one at Danby Lodge National Park Centre, Danby, from Sutton Bank National Park Centre or from the National Park Office in Helmsley (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm). Alternatively call us and pay over the telephone - contact Julia Jewitt on
Frequent user permits
Frequent user permits are available for three of our car parks: Newton under Roseberry, Sutton Bank National Park Centre, and Danby Lodge National Park Centre.
They last for 12 months from the date of purchase and cost £30.00. It is hoped the permit will benefit regular users of these popular sites, ease local parking pressures, and encourage more people to get out in the National Park and enjoy one of our most iconic landmarks.

Residents permit
These are only available to residents of the National Park and are provided to make it easier to access local services. They are applicable for the car park nearest to your home, so please state which car park you want the permit for. They cost £20.00 per year from the date of issue and are available from the National Park office in Helmsley, Danby Lodge National Park Centre and Sutton Bank National Park Centre or complete the online form.
Thornton le Dale residents' permits are also available to purchase from the National Park Village Information Point at Wardill Bros. and from Baldersons Cafe.
Business residents permit
These are only available for business proprietors and their staff who have a business within the National Park boundary. They are for the car park nearest to your business, so please state which car park you want the permit for. These cost £20.00 per year from the date of issue and there is no limit to the number of permits per business.
They are available to purchase from the National Park office in Helmsley, Danby Lodge National Park Centre and Sutton Bank National Park Centre. Thornton le Dale business permits are also available to purchase from the National Park Village Information point at Wardill Bros. and from Baldersons Cafe or complete the online form.
