We provide car parks at a number of villages and scenic spots throughout the North York Moors. Some of these car parks are pay and display and many have public toilets.
The relatively small charge we ask helps us to maintain these facilities for the benefit of residents and visitors all year round and is also spent on looking after the National Park. Thank you for helping others to enjoy their time here.

In order to maintain the facilities at a high standard, the larger car parks and public toilets are cared for by car park wardens who are happy to help you and can provide information about the National Park.
Please note all toilets operated by North York Moors National Park Authority are open daily 7.30am-5.30pm, except the toilets at Sutton Bank and Danby Lodge National Park Centre which are open 10am–5pm. For information about accessible toilet facilities, please visit our Public toilets and changing places page.

PayByPhone app
The PayByPhone app makes parking fast, easy and convenient - and you don’t even have to get out of your car. The North York Moors National Park page on the PayByPhone website has further information and advice.
You will not be able to access the PayByPhone app if you have no mobile network coverage, you will then have two options:

Details on how to buy a permit can be found below.
If you have already purchased a permit but have changed your car you can update your vehicle registration details.
Permit types
1. All car parks annual permit
This covers all of the car parks and costs £67.00 a year from the date of issue.
2. Frequent user permit
Frequent user permits are valid for one car park and are available for the car parks listed below:
- Cawthorn Roman Camps
- Chopgate
- Danby Lodge National Park Centre
- Goathland

- Hole of Horcum (Saltergate)
- Hutton le Hole

They last for 12 months from the date of purchase and cost £31.00. It is hoped the permit will benefit regular users of these popular sites, ease local parking pressures, and encourage more people to get out in the National Park and enjoy one of our most iconic landmarks.
3. Business residents permit
If you work in an area located within one of our car parks and plan to park regularly with no more than two standard vehicles, the Frequent User Pass is the most suitable permit for your needs.
For those requiring more than two vehicles, using an abnormal vehicle, or intending to use the car park for purposes other than standard parking, please email your requirements to carparks@northyorkmoors.org.uk for further assistance.
Business permits are available upon request and will be priced according to demand and specific needs.
How to buy a permit
All permits, with the exception of the Business residents permit, can be purchased online and posted to you (a £2 postage charge will be applied).
You can purchase our permits in person at either National Park centre (Danby Lodge or Sutton Bank). Alternatively you can also obtain them at Thornton le Dale from the National Park Village Information Point at Wardill Bros.
