The seafood restaurant
Glen Pearson is a man on a mission: ‘I want to be the best seafood restaurant in the country!’ An ambitious claim, you might think, but the Seaview Restaurant and takeout, bang on the sea front in Saltburn certainly has film star looks.
The view from the glamorous first floor dining room has an uninterrupted view of the North Sea and the fabulous Victorian Pier. Inside, it’s all ivory floors, cream leather chairs and marble tables – not your standard chippy. ‘Location is everything’ says Glen. ‘I was working in IT in London, and wanted to come back home to the coast. I love where I work; it’s very fulfilling’.
Queues for the takeaway snake round the block summer and winter, though the good-looking restaurant menu offers much more than fish & chips – find the likes of crab and pea risotto, sea bass with chorizo and kale and mackerel with beetroot and samphire. ‘We served the best produce available on the day, from Whitby, Staithes and Grimsby.’
‘The sea and the fishermen dictate our menu. We never compromise on quality or sustainability’ says Glen. ‘I’m not chasing a Michelin Star – when people are jostling to get in your door, that’s success!’
