Tramper hire and wheelchair/ scooter loan

For those with limited mobility, we  offer wheelchair and electric scooter loan free of charge (no need to pre-book). Or you can hire out a Tramper from the Centre (pre-booking essential), an electric all-terrain mobility scooter suitable for rough ground and steeper inclines .

To hire the Tramper, you must be an existing member of the North York Moors Mobility scheme. Members can hire it on a pre-booked basis (available seven days a week, one at 11am and the second at 2pm). Non-members can sign up and receive training (pre-booking also required). Toilet facilities

There is a Changing Places toilet available inside the Centre within the Inspired by... gallery. The main public toilets are in a separate building, outside, accessed via steps. Both male and female include baby changing facilities. There is an accessible toilet next to The Truffled Hog which can be accessed at all hours via a RADAR key.

Level access onsite

One entrance to the National Park Centre, approximately 86cm and 87cm wide. Level access except for slight step at front door.

Two storeys with level floors. First floor reached by a flight of 15 stairs with handrails on both sides. Platform lift also available.

Internal doorways vary in width from 78cm to 116cm. Seating available on low seats in exhibition rooms, the Inspired by... gallery and in the café.

Level access to the café through their separate entrance door from the garden.

Access from Centre to grounds via ramp or steps. Generally quite level outside with a few slopes. Bottom tier of wildflower garden has level access, higher tiers only accessible via rough stone steps. Paths tarmac or grass.

Circular trail in Crow Wood is accessible by wheelchair: 400m long, with hard compact surface. Gentle gradients of no more than 1 in 14.

Facilities for hearing impairment

We have a hearing loop system at the Information desk.

Accessible parking

Pay and display car park approx. 150m away from entrance to Centre. Tarmac surface with ramps. Minor road to cross.

Alternative drop-off point 50m from main entrance.

Charges apply for Blue Badge holders.

Trained assistance dogs welcome
