On Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 June we’re encouraging people who live in or around the North Yorks Moors to discover (or rediscover) their nearest National Park Centre.
All you need to do is mention our Community Weekend to receive the following special offers:
- Buy a 12-month ‘frequent user’ car parking permit for the National Park Centre you’re visiting for half price (£15 rather than £30).
- Free tea or regular coffee with every slice of cake in the Park Life Café, OR
- 10% off when you purchase a dish that includes local produce including breakfast sandwiches, full English breakfasts, ham, egg and chips or cheese and local chutney toastie
You can also find out more about our work or how to volunteer with the North York Moors National Park by speaking to our team.
A bit about our National Park Centres
Danby Lodge
You heard it here first… the brand new and much awaited adventure playground will be open for the first time this weekend! We are delighted to be able to share this news with you, our local community members, before we shout about it more widely. All the play equipment will be available to use and enjoy, but some temporary fencing will still be in place as we prepare to restore the areas of ground that have been used as access for machinery.
If you can tear yourselves away from the playground for just a moment, you will of course find our interactive exhibitions, indoor play spaces and the Inspired by… gallery. Visit our events page to find out more about what’s on, including our family-friendly trails.

Sutton Bank
Sutton Bank National Park Centre has recently seen an extension to its successful Tramper hire scheme, meaning the accessible trails now take in the best views of Gormire Lake and Hood Hill. Additional wheelchairs are also available to borrow, specially designed to tackle more challenging terrain.
On Sunday 2 June there’s an opportunity to join expert Harry Pearson on a 5.5 mile walk to learn more about the Battle of Byland. Set off from Sutton Bank down to Gormire Lake and towards Hood Hill, following the route taken by the Scottish army aiming to catch the English Defenders.
Sutton Bank is of course famous for its cycle trails, with routes suitable for the smallest family members through to the most experienced.
You’ll also find a children’s play area, indoor interactive exhibitions and gift shop.
