Adventure on two wheels

Danby Lodge is a great base to set out or take a break en route. The Centre sits within the Esk Valley - known for its steep inclines and sweeping expanse of heather moorland, providing challenging climbs with spectacular views. For this reason, the Tour of Britain – the UK’s biggest professional bike race has passed through on several occasions, most recently in 2024.

E-bike charging station

E-bike charger at Danby Lodge

Take a break and make use of our free e-bike charging station. Located on the entrance path in front of the toilets, refuel at The Truffled Hog while you wait. The station includes plugs for Bosch and Shimano manufactured systems, as well as two generic three-pin plugs for other systems. It has the capacity to charge up to 4 e-bikes simultaneously. There is also a bike repair stand for basic bike check-ups, including pump and allen key set to get you back on the road quickly.

Our recommended routes

The Esk Valley West and Westerdale road circuit delivers magnificent views across moorland vistas and through quiet country villages .

Head east along Esk Valley East and Egton Bridge for some of the most charming villages in the whole valley, with stepping stones, sleepy greens and traditional pubs.

Discover the North York Moors Cycleway- it passes by the Centre. This 171 mile (276km) figure of eight loop covers hidden valleys and deep forests while experiencing stunning views along the rugged coastline. The Esk Valley Railway is a great way to enjoy car-free access to complete shorter sections.
