Cycling friendly

Cycling friendly logoThe North York Moors is one of the best places in the country to enjoy cycling of all types from gravel riding to mountain biking, from road cycling to cyclo-cross. With dedicated mountain biking centres and more than 2,000 kms of bridleways and quiet moorland roads, you really are spoilt for choice.

Business who've joined the cycling friendly network have gone the extra mile to offer specific activities, facilities, information and services to enhance your stargazing experience in the North York Moors.

Check out the map below to plan your perfect cycling holiday.

So what does it all mean? Here's what to expect from a cycling friendly business:

Accommodation

Offer facilities such as secure lock up and kit storage with tools and bike wash facilities. They'll be able to help with advice on the nearest bike shops, service and hire centres and some have agreements in place for delivery of hire bikes. They will also point you towards some great places to ride with cycling friendly places to visit for that all important tea and cake break.

Bike hire

There's a wide selection of providers offering road, hybrid, mountain bikes and eBikes. Some will also deliver the bikes to your accommodation making it easier if you want to ride close by or point to point, and you’re not able to transport or return bikes yourself. Find out more information on bike hire.

Food and drink

Rest assured you won't be frowned upon walking into these places wearing your dirty cycle gear! You can also rest easy knowing you can see your bike parked up or there's a safe place to store it. What's more we're Britain's Capital of Cake so you're sure to get a good slice of the sweet stuff.

Cycling centres

We love boasting about our cycling centres at Dalby Forest, Great Fryupdale and Sutton Bank. They offer facilities such as waymarked or mapped routes, cycle hire, bike wash and café facilities onsite or nearby. They’re also great places for cycling advice, to buy spares or to get your bike fixed.

Repair stations

For the times you encounter a problem whilst out on a ride and you don’t have the tools to fix it. These places have tools for public use and basic spares such as inner tubes for you to buy. If you can’t fix the problem they’ll also let you use their phone to contact the nearest cycle service centre that offers bike collection or mobile repairs.

Retail and servicing

Whether you need parts, have something that needs fixing or want to make that impulse buy, there are lots of bike shops dotted around so you don't have to travel far. You’ll get great local advice and some have signed up to offer Repair Station facilities.

Activity providers

Provide local knowledge for the best routes and trails. Maybe you’d like to improve your bike handling or maintenance skills? The Cycling holidays page has more information too.

E-bike charge point

With the rapid growth of e-bikes making cycling more accessible to a wider demographic - opportunities for charging away from the home are becoming more important. These free e-bike charge points offer a place to pit-stop, top up the battery and refuel and hydrate the body!

Getting around

If you're arriving via public transport or want to ditch the car for the day, take a look at our transport page providing lots of car-free options to access the National Park and surrounds.
